Fantastic Source of Knowledge

This is a fantastic resource for learning about Real Estate Investing. There are two resources in it. The first is "Property Investors School" which has 7 CD's. There is also a workbook for it that is not included in this that you can find on Dolfderoos.com. The second resource is Dolf's Audiobook "Real Estate Riches". You know Dolf De Roos is one of the best teachers of property investing because he is a Rich Dad advisor. Robert Kiyosaki partnered with him to bring us "Real Estate Riches". In order to be the best, you have to learn from the best which is why I highly recommend "Real Estate Investor's College" to anyone who is trying to learn about Real Estate Investing.

Buy this before you spend big $$ on a seminar

Most of this audio program (13 CDs and 1 DVD) is from an actual weekend seminar recorded in New Zealand. These seminars typically cost a lot of money, sometimes over $1000, so this CD/DVD program is a bargain. I listened to it driving to and from work and for the most part Dolf kept me engaged. I'm on a first name basis with Dolf, because after listening to him speak and interact personally with the audience for 15 hours, I feel like I know him pretty well.

His style is disarming and low key. He seems very approachable and works to make the content accessible. That's great for a beginner or intermediate investor. However it can drag if you are very familiar with the fundamental elements of real estate investment (REI).

Psychology and motivation are doled out liberally. He works to help us believe anyone can do this and that you can learn 90% of what you need to know in a couple of months. He spends a good amount of time on the psychology of negotiation and the value of finding motivated sellers. The audience role plays and then reports back. They look for deals in the newspaper, call the sellers, then evaluate the deals. Audience members describe their actual deals for the group's evaluation. Dolf tells about his own winning deals.

Dolf tells us that REI is really easy. Perhaps it is if you really know what you are doing, but he doesn't warn enough about making mistakes. And one mistake in REI can cost you for a very long time. He really glosses over the risks, especially of over leveraging. He ignores or downplays transaction and ownership expenses. Once you are experienced, what he describes can become easy.

His signature proposition is: "The deal of a decade comes along every week." I have found this to be true when I am actively out looking. This makes it a lot easier when you miss a property that you want, knowing that another great one is around the corner. "Don't fall in love with the property, fall in love with the deal." Let the numbers do the talking.

He also teaches to hold for the long-term and finance all your properties. And as you build equity, borrow more cash against your holdings to do more deals. Don't pay off any of your properties. Hmmm, this has burned plenty of investors over the past couple of years.

He wants us to use property managers so we don't get bogged down in the nitty gritty of land lording. He is all about tax efficiency. He teaches that you should invest in the best possible areas, whether that means out of state or internationally. I would only recommend that to experienced investors.

This gets 4 stars for newbies, and 3 stars for moderately experienced investors. Dolf really is a good and entertaining presenter, but for more depth and techniques, look elsewhere.

PreSchool-Willa can't go to sleep, so she enlists the help of her big brother Willoughby. He tells her to "think of something happy," but the toddler bunny can't think of anything on her own. Patiently, Willoughby points out happy things that await her in the morning: her chicken slippers and blue-and-white jumpsuit, breakfast food in the kitchen, toys in the living room, and the morning itself. Satisfied, Willa goes to sleep in his arms. This is a perfect book for wide-awake toddlers. The simple but beautifully crafted text has a soft rhythm to it, and paints a touching picture of the warm and loving relationship between the siblings. This is again reflected in the lovely illustrations, which radiate a sense of peace and coziness, and have all sorts of wonderful details to discover. The expressions on the bunnies' faces are just right. Their tree house has decorative accents throughout, and Willa has footie pajamas with carrots and lettuce printed on them. The oversize format insures that the book can be used in storytimes as well as for bedtime read-alouds. This is a winner in the tradition of Sam McBratney's Guess How Much I Love You (Candlewick, 1995) and Margaret Wise Brown's Goodnight Moon (HarperCollins, 1947).

A very sweet story

We really enjoy this sweet story. I like the the brother-sister relationship in the book. Willoughby is a helpful, patient, and caring big brother. The illustrations are fun and playful. The overall theme of the book is this loving relationship, plus the idea that "the morning is waiting just for you but it can't come unless you go to sleep." We have often used this idea (and this book) to help our son calm down for sleep.

About the Author

T.S. Srivatsan, Professor of Materials Science & Engineering in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Akron (OH, USA), earned his M.S. in Aerospace Engineering in 1981 and his Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering in 1984 from Georgia Institute of Technology (USA). Dr. Srivatsan joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering faculty at The University of Akron in 1987. T.S. Sudarshan earned his B.Tech in Metallurgy from the Indian Institute of Technology (Madras), and completed his M.Sc and Ph.D in Materials Engineering Science from Virginia Tech (VA, USA). He is President and CEO of Materials Modification, Inc., which is at the forefront of research, development, and commercialization of advanced materials utilizing novel processing techniques. He is a Fellow of (i) American Society for Materials International; (ii) International Federation for Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering; and (iii) Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. He has also produced numerous papers [175+] in journals and edited books [30+].

Aspen Pittman has produced various versions of The Tube Amp Book over the years -- this is the 1991, a 703 page trade paperback weighting in at a little over two pounds.

Reviews for the "deluxe and revised" edition mention that the image quality on schematics is poor. I can report that you won't be knocked senseless by the stunning 1991 graphic quality of the illustrations in this version, but they're all reproduced well.

Illustrations: about 400 pp of schematics, about 50 b&w illustrations (many of them vintage photos or ads), and 48 pp of color illustrations which are full-on vintage guitar porn of "couples" (guitars and amps.)

I bought my copy a few years ago before the revised editions and I felt I should leave feedback about it in case someone was looking to buy a book about amps. Not bad if you can find it in decent condition. Anotehr option is Dave Funks book which is back in print. About the Author

Karen Anderson received her BA and MA from the University of Regina, and she received her PhD in sociology from the University of Toronto in 1982. She taught at McMaster University in Hamilton and at King's College in London, Ontario, before coming to teach at York University in 1988, where she is currently an associate professor of sociology. Her research interests include nineteenth-century financial capital, gender relations in seventeenth-century Iroquoian societies, contemporary social theory, and theories and practices of post-secondary teaching. Most recently she has begun a research project on the flight of capital from manufacturing in a small Ontario town and its impact on people's lives. Between 2007 and 2010 she was a research fellow at York University's Centre for the Support of Teaching, where she conducted research on teaching large introductory university classes. She has authored two books, as well as numerous book chapters and journal articles.

Still the Best of Taleb

Fooled by Randomness revolutionized how I view the world. In multiple ways. It's hard to overstate how rarely a book changes your ideas about how the world works once, let alone multiple times, and that Taleb has managed to weave a fantastically engaging and entertaining book out of what could very easily be a dry and technical topic is just icing in the cake.

I've read all four of Taleb's books and Fooled By Randomness still stands out as my favorite. Although Black Swan is still the most popular, and most controversial, Fooled in many ways is the most practical, as it's the most general and therefore most widely applicable. Everyone should deeply understand the survivorship and hindsight biases, as well as the difference between conditional and unconditional probability.

That being said, it's often hard to determine whether the heart of the book is the ideas (which to someone such as myself who has only a Stats 101 background in probability are almost always revelation-inducing) or the author. I can't stress how much I learned from this book that has nothing to do with probability or statistics, just random asides from an erudite and meandering mind. Regardless of your background (or even your interest in probability) you will probable learn some fascinating and/or useful tidbit from Fooled, and probably a whole lot more.

Will change your perspective on the role of luck in your success

Fooled by randomness is a book that will change your perspective about life success and chance, if you are in a profession where making predictions on highly uncertain fields is your daily bread, this book will help you realize that sometimes success is mostly a product of luck, not to say that all people involved on economics, stock markets, big CEOs, sales people, etc. are purely successful by luck, but sometimes they (and I include myself) give greater credit for ability and knowledge more than luck, this situation expose you to a great danger: a big failure event (or the black swan as described by Nassim)
Is far better to be aware of this problem with randomness and take all possible precautions to avoid a big catastrophe (this really is what counts in terms of managing a good streak of good chance). With basic and logical examples Taleb explains really good (or at least makes you think about it) how the human brain tries to match great events due to expertise and not luck (but always on hindsight) and bad luck to randomness. If you have some profession where success is not as straight forward related as a dentist maybe (his favorite example on the book) or something not as deterministic but instead more economic or social statistical involved role, reading Fooled by Randomness will change your perspective and help you to be prepared for the black swan event

Less generalizable than Black Swan but still helpful for understanding scope, scale, and context of information

Useful and insightful perspectives from Taleb on the subject he is famous for, but as a book it is more scattered than "Black Swan." The general theme of the book is randomness, but he jumps from topic to topic, e.g. options trading to historical narrative to behavior psychology to journalism, back to trading, back to journalism, etc.

Although the book does try to be relevant to non-financial market professions and decisions, it feels to me much less generalizable than "Black Swan." He even uses a term like "randomness professions" or something (I can't remember) to distinguish those that are from those that aren't, but gives few examples outside of financial markets, and I suspect most non-traders will feel like the book isn't quite written for them. (I think a lot of people like the book just because he dumps on financial professionals, and there is recent popular sentiment that those guys aren't as smart as they think they are and deserve to be taken down a peg or two.)

Anyway, as a non-trader I found Taleb's ideas in this book broadened the way I think about how information comes to me, what it represents, what is missing from it, and how I make decisions based on it.

She’s an entrepreneur, a marketing consultant, and a digi-hippie at heart.

Gabriel Stempinski
Gabriel is a life adventurer, a business consultant, a father of two, and an avid Couchsurfer. He has had a wildly successful career, but has always found solace in connecting with others and in being generous. He sees no logical reason not to share and regularly buys strangers coffee, pays their bridge tolls, and generally passes on the spirit of goodwill to others. He now lives with his wife and two kids in Southern California, and is excited to see how far and wide the vision for this book can spread.

Alexandra Liss
Alexandra is a talented filmmaker. She found the sharing economy through Couchsurfing, which prompted her to crowdfund, film, and edit her first full feature documentary “One Couch at a Time,” which tells the story of traveling the world for 6 months, staying on strangers' couches along the way. An Amazing Eye-Opener!

A fun read but with a serious purpose and a positive message. This book can show you how to accomplish everything from the everyday to the epic by using internet resources to swap and share your way to the life you want without the need to acquire more and more "stuff" along the way. Before I read this book I knew virtually nothing about the "sharing economy" and even less about the literally hundreds of digital (internet) resources just waiting for you to put them to good use to create the life you want. Do you ever dream of being able to travel the world but don't because of limited funds? This book can show you how to do just that. Are you sure you have an idea for the "next big thing" but don't have a clue how to go about getting it out there? This book can show you how. It's all laid out in simple steps and with all the online references and resources to make it happen. I, for one, can't wait to start using this book to do things I never thought I'd be able to do!!

Great guide for those just starting off and participating in the share economy. Will save you a lot of time figuring out the best options out there, whether it's for transportation, housing, courses, etc. The book was an easy read, but full of practical tips/steps on how to do more with new share platforms. I particularly enjoyed reading the individual stories and learning about how sharing has enriched their lives. An important guide given how much our economy has shifted in the last few years. The writers have a strong vision of a more collaborative society that is more positive and participatory. Inspiring!

About the Author
Frederick J Gravetter is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at The College at Brockport, State University of New York College. While teaching at Brockport, he specialized in statistics, research design, and cognitive psychology. Dr. Gravetter received his Bachelor's degree in mathematics from M.I.T. and his Ph.D. in psychology from Duke University. In addition to publishing several research articles, Dr. Gravetter is co-author of the best-selling STATISTICS FOR THE BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES, 9th Edition, ESSENTIALS OF STATISTICS FOR THE BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES, 8th Edition, and (with Lori-Ann B. Forzano) RESEARCH METHODS FOR THE BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES, 5th Edition.

Lori-Ann B. Forzano is an Associate Professor of Psychology at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, where she regularly teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in research methods. She earned a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where she also received her B.S. in psychology. Dr. Forzano's research interests are in the area of conditioning and learning. Specifically, she studies impulsivity in adults and children. Her research has been published in the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, Learning and Motivation, and The Psychological Record.

This is an excellent textbook!

This is an excellent textbook!!! I used this book for my initial review of research methods and statistics in preparation for my doctoral comprehensive exam. (I passed on my first attempt!) Gravetter & Forzano present the information in a logical format and introduce statistical concepts in connection with steps in the research process – as other authors should. I have read texts on research methods and on statistics for undergraduate and graduate level courses in the disciplines of political science, health science, communications, and social work – Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences is the best work for a student's introductory text or as a first rate text for graduate student review. I highly recommend this book!

Excellent guide to basic research methods and design appropriate for any audience.

I've taught this book for 7 years. It is an excellent, no nonense, comprehensive summary of basic quantitative research methods and design. Written for undergrads, it contains the fundamentals of research design that most grad students still have not mastered. Highly recommended.

Run risk of getting instructors edition, as stated in description.

I got an instructors edition :( Seller states you run the risk of getting either student or instructor, I decided to gamble, and lost hehe. Good price for book however, and at the end of the day, its still the same book. (just extras) Would buy again.
