About the Author
Harry has been a senior software engineer at Cisco since September 2010. His primary work involves development of Cesium, which is a platform for Cisco to monitor and control hardware quality of its partners (OEM/ODM). Prior to joining Cisco, Harry was associated with Autodesk and Microsoft for development of Map 3D and Winforms respectively. Over the years, he has interviewed more than 100 candidates for different corporations. His interest lies in coding interview questions. He has written dozens of blogs on this topic. Harry's published works include a book about programming interview questions in Chinese, which was released in December 2011 with PHEI, China. He has exhaustive knowledge, experience and understanding of code related questions and interviews. He also published a paper in the special issue of CASA 2005 with Wiley.

Not a well-known book but surprisingly good

This book is surprisingly good due to the varieties of the problems and mostly having good explanations on the solutions (better than cracking book). Some problems not found in other similar books.

The only problem I have with this book is it's not well-organized into areas - I know it's hard but for example, all strings related problems should be under the same chapters, same are arrays.

My recommended books: "Coding Interviews", "Elements of Programming Interviews", and "Cracking the Coding Interview" (must be 5th ed.) in that order.

This actually 4 stars book but I give 5 stars for the excellent effort and cancel out other bad reviews for a very good book even it's not the best.

First impression

I haven't read this entire book yet, but since it hs no reviews I thoght it be helpful to give my first impression.
I wanted to find a book that was very current, complete, and had more than just basic algorithms and structures.
I'm not sure how well the book reflects what is currently happening in interviews, but I get the impression that the author has enough experience from his job and from the comments on his blog to give a better than average impression of what kinds of answers interviewers are looking for and of the kinds of mistakes interviewee's are likely to make.
The questions from the data structures and algorithms sections look like the have been deliberately selected and layed out logically so that one idea leads to the next. The questions are written clearly. After the coverage of these topics from my school the answers are clear, but don't overlap so much that they don't seem interesting or useful.
The book covers details about testing and code quality that other books leave out.

This is better than anything I could find on the internet. It looks like the rest of the book will be useful and well written too.

Propblem selection and analysis walkthough is very good

The book is very good overall, the problems and analysis are inline with current interview trends and do refresh elements of algorithm that are useful in day to day operations.

Gave 4/5 as:
- one of, if not the first code sample in the book needs an errata, tried to submit one but I never got feedback after the post.
- there are a few typos and sentences that could be revised for consistency.
- the index of keywords is incomplete at the end of the book; so the ebook/pdf/kindle format might be better if you try to quickly find a specific element within the book. As in using the book as a reference book after the first read.

I rate this as a "buy".

Very dissapointing ...totally unbalanced compared to first book.

I read this second installment almost straight after the first and this book although a sequel is practically a completely different book as the main characters seem to have morphed into totally different people. In the first book it was a story of a couple that obviously cared for each other and had great trust in this book that's thrown out the door and instead we have a rather negative tone. The wife strangely does things (huge things ...not little things ) without discussing it first with her husband who she professes to love and also does things her husband explicitly asks her not to do. The husband who in the first book was a strong character turns inexplicably into a major wimp and just lets massive things slide and even when he does show resistance its nowhere near strong enough compared to what has happened. He's been totally emasculated in this book for no reason. I feel this book completely lost its balance compared to book 1 it was no longer about a couple that I could respect. It is very well written and had some very hot sex in it but still was a major disappointment to me.

Heart Stopping!

In this sequel to 'Training To Love It', it continues the story of Tom and Erin, a happily married couple that has recently crossed the line and taken the ultimate plunge in their mutual hot wife fantasy. Like any addiction once it has taken hold, they continue to explore further into this fantasy and 'up the dosage' in their exploits. It is also a time of discovery in their marriage as Tom learns that Erin has some quite kinky fantasies that he never knew about. Erin only confides and acts out these initial forbidden fantasies with her lover A.J., which kind of shocks Tom because they are far too dirty for her to admit to her husband. A.J. seems to be able to get Erin to do things that Tom never could, or would do. But they soon learn that as they keep 'one upping' their exploits and pushing things further, that everyone has a breaking point, which will test the strength of their marriage. This book is loaded with hot erotic scenes and events, and the pace is all that much faster. This is definitely a must read, especially for those that think that they know everything about their partners or spouses. Through the twists and turns, this is one wild ride that I would recommend taking.

Not as good as first book ...

This is a really well written book that has some great hot sex scenes in it. I didn't like it nearly as much as the first book in the series because the wife really began to do things without discussing it with her husband and even knowing he wasn't happy. Her behavior on her birthday party wasn't really forgivable. The husband was a pretty strong character in the first book but here he just act's like a doormat. One of the best things about the first book was the interaction between the husband and wife but I felt some of the nicer aspects of the first book were lost as they were no longer really believable as a loving couple. Still a really well written and sexy book though.

Critical in the Best Sense

This book is an excellent example of using comparative historical analysis to address major questions. The general issue is the "Great Divergence" between western Europe and Qing China in the 18th and early 19th century. Vries focuses on 2 specific questions. One; to what extent was 18th century Britain the Smithian society that many economists and some historians see as a necessary and sufficient condition for industrialization? Second; were Qing China and "Europe" approximately equivalent in terms of governmental-social-economic organization, as argued recently by some historians? Vries method is a detailed comparison of Britain and Qing China, attempting to be as quantitative as possible. Vries is very aware of the limitations of the data, and seems to be very careful with his comparisons, arguing convincingly that even order of magnitude comparisons are useful.

Vries opens with a very good historiographic chapter to define the issues, setting the stage for his analyses. He then works through a series of systematic chapters treating various aspects of the British-Qing comparison. These include taxation and the financial powers of the British and Qing states, military performance and relative power, the nature and extent of the bureaucracies, the role of these states in the larger economies, the nature of British and Qing imperialism, and what he calls the "legibility" of these states; how it penetrated the consciousness of their subjects.

Contrary to the conclusions of many economists and some economic historians, Vries shows Britain to be a relatively interventionist, relatively powerful, and strongly mercantilist state functioning in the context of the highly competitive and aggressive European state system. Vries argues well that this phenomenon was a key to British industrialization, strongly undermining the arguments of quite a few economists. As a complementary conclusion, Vries shows that Qing China was a much weaker state and generally less dynamic economy, in part related to the absence of state direction. While Vries' conclusions will not surprise many experienced readers, this book is very strongly argued and I doubt that Vries analyses can be rebutted by the objects of his critique. This is an excellent contribution to the debates over the Great Divergence, and indirectly, to discussions of the nature of economic modernization.

An exellent, brief introduction to the issues of the singularity and AI more generally

This is an excellent, brief book. Unlike many books in this field, it gets right to the point as well as filling the newbie in on vital aspects of applicable technologies. The book is somewhat philosophical but looks at the whole space of AI up to and including the singularity. It does not take a strong stance on what is possible technologically but explores what the implications are if it turns out to be the case that AI is possible.

Commuication and the real World

Upon completion and thorough study of this book by Dr. Egolf, I found it to be well written. The book explored all aspects of small group and team communication. It left little room for question, and the book covered the performance part of a group in great detail. The book also, extensively discusses how problems within a group are the focus point. The detail provided behind the focus of problems gives the readers a whole new light on how to approach problem solving in small group setting. The book is also put together in a chronological order with great supporting real life examples. Any reader could relate themselves to this book in a number of ways. The examples provided are not too wordy and they get to the point unlike many other books that talk about problem solving.

Another great chapter in the book is the nonverbal chapter. I thought the chapter was very informative and interesting. It leaves you wanting to know more about the nonverbal communication associated with groups though. I felt that this section could have been elaborated on more. It was very interesting to learn about the nonverbal interaction within groups. Bringing the idea of nonverbal communication to someone's attention really has you think about your actions in a public setting. Are we relaying the same message verbally as we are nonverbally? After reading this chapter, I now find myself playing close attention to my nonverbal action especially when I am trying to be persuasive.

If any manager or team leader needed to find an insight on managing their groups and teams most effectively this book could be your answer. It presents so many different theories from scholars of communications and relates these theories to a realistic scenario. If a group is struggling with identification or problem solving there are so many solutions within the pages of the book that you are bound to stumble upon some kind of answer to help achieve "equilibrium" as many of the theories strive to achieve.

In addition, I found the book to read very easily. Before you know it you find yourself at the end of the book. If you are going to a career where you know you will be working with team members, like sales, this book is sure page-turner. You will find so many tools to help yourself get ahead of the game and not fall into any traps. I would highly recommend this book to any person who is dedicated to bettering their communication skills in the world. Even if your career path doesn't involve teamwork or small group interaction, you will be engaged with small groups all of your life. It would be advantageous to further your skills in communication as you will learn as your read this book.

Group & Team Communication for everyone

Why do people form groups? What is the best way to solve a problem? What can eye movements tell me about the people I'm trying to communicate with? Pick up a copy of this book if you'd like to know the answers to these questions as well as many others dealing with small group and team communication.
Forming Storming Norming Performing presents the reader with an easy to understand, yet thorough trip through the world of small group communication. Egolf covers all the bases from a scientific standpoint, but doesn't forget that people without a Ph.D. are going to be reading it. Don't get confused, this book is no slouch by any means. Egolf delves deeply into topics from leadership roles to problem solving as well as many other facets of how small groups and teams function. Chapter 14 is especially interesting, as it deals with computer mediated communication. In an age where the Internet has been expanding the world of communication, Egolf shows how the power of technology can and will be beneficial, not to mention best used.
As a student of communication, I can honestly say that this will be one book that won't go back to the bookstore or to an underclassman at the end of the semester. Whether you are a student, professional, or just someone who wants to learn how to successfully communicate in small groups and teams...this should be an essential part of your collection or one to study before your next board meeting.

A Gem of a Book....

Many of us find ourselves spending hours, days, and even weeks serving on teams and committees. Egolf clearly dissects and illuminates the stages of the group process, so that team players can recognize, anticipate and plan for effective communication. Armed with the knowledge presented in this book, it will be ever so much easier to serve on and lead teams.
Who can benefit? This book will be an unvaluable resource for those in business and the professions; college students assigned to produce group projects; citizens who serve on a jury; and even coaches of sports teams.
Egolf's text is superb--readable, current, theoretically sound, and practical. Whenever three or more people get together to achieve a common goal, the process will be far smoother if they've first digested the content in "Forming Norming Storming Perfoming."
