This book is brilliant because after reading it you gain a huge insight into this invisible part of Aspergers/autism known as Theory of Mind (ToM). You come to realize that people on the autistic spectrum lack ToM which is the ability to see things from another person's perspective, read non verbal gestures, pick up on social cues, read or connect with another persons emotions, desires, needs and intentions.
This book is packed with true life stories of how having no ToM has affected the authors life growing up on the autistic spectrum, the author has really brought to light this complex part of autism/Aspergers that us typical people take for granted because we have a Theory of Mind, so to imagine what its like not to have this phenomenon is really very difficult for us and that's what makes it hard to understand.
The beauty of Mark hogan's stories and explanations is they take the mystery out of this complex and hard to understand part of autism in an easy to read manner unlike some of the more clinical and boring books out there. You can see his journey through life and see that since his late diagnosis of Aspergers after his son got diagnosed with autism Mark Hogan has obviously gained a huge insight into his own condition and has taken the steps to be more aware of Theory of Mind in a bid to aid himself and the people around him to live a better life by putting in strategies around this invisible phenomenon.
Every story is quick and the chapters are kept short I loved it, the author has a unique style of writing, when you are reading the book you would think he is standing beside you telling you the story, which I love, and his quick witted humour shines through making this book a really pleasant read.
